Internet Archive, San Francisco, CA, February 23 – 24, 2017

This workshop, with the generous support of the Internet Archive, Rutgers University, and the University of Waterloo, presents an opportunity to collaboratively unleash our web collections, exploring cutting-edge research tools while fostering a broad-based consensus on future directions in web archive analysis. 

The event will occur at the Internet Archive in San Francisco, CA. This third iteration of the Archives Unleashed series will take place in conjunction with a National Web Symposium, hosted at the Internet Archive, February 23 – 24. The focus of the Archives Unleashed datathon will be on leveraging APIs for data collection, and will use a new API being released by the Internet Archive.

This hackathon will bring together a small group of 20-30 researchers to collaboratively develop new open-source tools and approaches to web archives. While there has been considerable discussion about web archive tools and datasets, few forums or mechanisms for coordinated, mutually informing development efforts have been created. This event presents an opportunity to collaboratively unleash our web collections, exploring cutting-edge research tools while fostering a broad-based consensus on future directions in web archive analysis.
